Ministry of Home Affairs, through the BPR&D and the LNJN NICFS has accordingly, initiated training programmes for Investigation Officers (Police), Prosecutors, and Medical Officers in collection, storage and handling of DNA evidence and use of Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits (SAEC Kits). The Directorate of Forensic Science Services under the Ministry has issued Guidelines for collection, storage and handling of sexual assault evidence, and Specifications for Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits. The objective of the scheme is to ensure a pool of trained and skilled Investigation Officers, Prosecutors and Medical Officers in States/UTs dealing with sexual assault cases, especially in matters relating to collection, storage and handling of DNA evidence and use of Sexual Assault Evidence Collection Kits (SAEC Kits).
