The Division deals with matters relating to coordination and concerted action by administrative, diplomatic, security, intelligence, legal, regulatory and economic agencies of the country for the management of international border, Border Area Development Programme (BADP), Vibrant Village Programme (VVP), Coastal Security, and establishment of Integrated Check Posts through of the Land Ports Authority of India In addition the Division also handles matters related to Contemporary China Studies and perception management.
“India has 15106.7 Km of land border and a coastline of 11098.81 Km including island territories. In pursuance of Group of Ministers recommendations on Border Management, the Department of Border Management was created in the Ministry of Home Affairs in January, 2004 to pay focused attention to the issues relating to management of international land border and coastline, strengthening of border policing & guarding, creation of infrastructure like roads, fencing & floodlighting on the borders and implementation of Border Area Development Programme, The Department of Border Management has two Divisions; Border Management Division-I & Border Management Division-ll.
BM-II Division synchronizes the efforts of diplomatic, security, intelligence, and economic agencies to bolster national integrity through initiatives such as the Vibrant Village Programme (VVP-I and VVP-II) and establishment and maintenance of Integrated Check Posts (ICPs) through the Land Ports Authority of India (LPAI). The division also coordinates and focusses on coastal security in coordination with stakeholder viz. Coastal States, Dept. of Fisheries, M/o Ports, Shipping & Waterways and the Indian Coast Guard and Indian Navy. It is responsible for implementaing related schemes like Coastal Security Scheme (CSS), focus on training and capacity building of coastal police.
